Okay, so my hair is very, very wavy, leaning toward curly. If it let my hair air dry naturally, my waves have no rhyme or reason. Some go here, some go there. Ugh. Basically it looks like I have a major case of bed hair (and not in a good way!). So I've spent my life blow drying and straightening my unruly locks (using a reverse perm and a million straightening irons), Anyway, it takes a lot of time and does more damage to my hair than I like.
So I went and bought these 3-inch self-gripping rollers. They do not heat up, so I was thinking it would be much better for my hair. My thought was that i would put them in my hair overnight and in the morning have loose waves (with all of them going in the right direction instead of looking all chaotic!)
Here's my dilemma. So far I had tried two different ways. When I first got them, I had already straightened my hair that morning with a straightening iron. So I just put the rollers in my hair overnight. I was very disappointed when I got up, because apparently I had straightened my hair TOO well the day before. I took out the rollers and my hair did not have any waves. On the plus side, it did have a little more volume, though. But still, not really what I was going for.
The second time I decided to blow dry my hair slightly so it wouldn't be sopping wet when I went to bed. It was about halfway dry and I put in the rollers. When I woke up the next morning, I did have some nice waves but my own natural curls still made little ';bumps'; within the roller-made waves. Not too bad, but STILL not what I really wanted.
Tonight I just got out of the shower and put the rollers in my hair while it was still very wet. It's only been a short time and I can already see my own curls popping up. Ugh.
So. Here's what I'm asking from you. Have you ever had non-heat rollers give you the look that you desired? And if so, what technique did you use? Any help would be appreciated.
And if you want to give me tips to make my natural waves/curls look better without using rollers that's okay, too. But please don't tell me just to love my hair the way it is. Believe me, if my curls looked good naturally like I've seen other women's look, I would be more than happy to wear them all the time. But mine have a mind of their own and they never do what I want them to. Trust me, they are not attractive.
Thanks for reading and I appreciate any help you can give me.Ladies with wavy/curly hair: help me! (Warning: This is long! Don't answer if you're just going to whine!)?

Do you have a good stylist?
I have similar hair and one day I tried out a new hair lady and OMG she fixed my hair with one good cut!
I wake up and wash my hair, then use marcel clips to get a nice wave in the front!
Have you ever tried them?
i have really wavy/curly hair too -- after i shower, right away i towel dry my hair (not completely) and then put Brocato curlinteruppted gel into it to cure frizz. then i brush/comb it, part it and put a headband on, and twist pieces around my fingers. it makes really nice, perfect curls. then i blowdry my hair, and hairspray it! it only takes about 15 minutes. i hope i helped you!
I am totally your girl. i had the same problem forever! its all about defining those locks! heres a perfect rountine that would give you the gorgeous hair you love with ZERO DAMAGE!(:
-First shampoo with curl life you can by it at target
-than condition with either curl life or something with moisture
-while your hairs wet use a frizz free serum by garnier
-than use your towel and scrunch your hair with it
-the next thing would be to use by garnier curl gel it will give you perfect curls with zero crunch
-take a little amount and scrunch your hair meaning face it down and bring it up to your head with holding on to it.
-than use surf hair by garnier use a tiny bit and again tilt your head but this time put your hair on the top of your head by your ear and kind of shake it to create curly waves.
-finally spray it with garnier waves of wonder to give it the finished look
-you can use a diffuser blowdryer to have it dry a little faster.
-but for ulitmite frizz fighting only use it for a couple seconds and re scrunch your hair
follow this step by step and you will have perfectly wavy curly hair
NOT DONE! hahaha
okay your waves and curls are only going to look good healthy so heres what i would do. go to a salon and get your hair professional deep coniditoned and than get the damage cut out like a trim ask her what it would take to have your hair healther
than when you have ZERO damage after all the treatments you want to keep it healthy so i would always use moisture so your hair doesnt dry leave in conditioner and deep conidtion with at home deep conditioner once a week. and dont worry about getting it cut it wont grow faster but will mantain healthier
*get chopy layers that will help you maintain your curls and waves better*
wow! hahaha goodluck!
I also have unruly curls and I hate them. My only solutions is to blow dry my hair and then use a straightener. This cuts the straightener time down and you don't ruin your hair. I live in FL unfortunately so in the summer all I can do is put in clips or a pony tail.
