If you want to run out and pick something up locally, I recommend trying LA Looks or Herbal essences gels (drugstore); Biotera gel and cream (Sally's Beauty Supply); Suave Naturals/vo5 conditioners (really cheap); Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Condish (semi-cheap but super moisturizing, found at organics/specialty stores); red Cream of Nature shampoo (drugstore again); and L'oreal out of bed weightless texturizer (black tub, use under gel). These are all good things to try, and be sure to tinker around with amounts and how you use any products.

For specific products for your hair type you might also want to explore the forums at:

http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/

There you can find others with the same hair type and try out some of their favorite products, but the most popular ones are usually only available online.

Here are some basic tips for curly hair that you might find helpful:

*Try to find a stylist who knows how to work with curly hair. You can find ratings by region here: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlsalons

*Don't shampoo every day.

*Comb conditioner through hair in the shower.

*Never use a brush on dry hair, only untangle when the hair is wet.

*Apply styling products to dripping wet hair. Scrunch or twirl hair to achieve desired shape.

*Use styling products suited for your hair type. Don鈥檛 know yours? http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types

*Avoid terrycloth towels; use linen, paper towels, or t-shirts instead.

*Air dry or use a diffuser with your blowdryer.

*Don't touch (or brush!) your hair while it鈥檚 drying.

*Once dry scrunch out any crunchy texture.

Lastly, it has made my hair so much better since I started the curly girl method! I used to almost never wear it down (it was a frizz/poof ball), but now I have pretty, shiny curls. ~:) It鈥檚 pretty radical鈥攏o sulfates (shampoo) or silicones鈥攂ut it鈥檚 so great for curly hair. When your hair is wet and towel dried, you can put in a smoothing serum that you can find at Sally Beauty Supply (all their staff know alout about haircare, so any questions you can ask them) After the smoothing serum you can apply a curling serum.

Or you can always get a perm.

P.S: There is a good shampoo and conditioner intentionally meant for afro hair but it really doesn't matter - it's called Silk Elements. Their conditioner is very thick and cholesterol based and a relaxer. The brand Silk Elements is very good for dry hair and scalp. (Massage conditioner all over hair and massage into scalp as well!) They also have a whole line of styling products for afro hair. This brand is available at Sally Beauty Supply as well. Do not be afraid to ask the workers there questions!!

All the best

well i think you should invest in a really good flat iron maybe try to get it done at a salon and as them to maybe chemically straighten it
Blow dry and use a really good flat iron... you will be amazed with the results.
OK first off you are going to have to treat your hair as biracial hair or natural afro texured hair . always smooth your hair. here are the rules. visit the link below.

The key to taking care of our super-curly hair is to just throw out trying to take care of it in the same way straight hair is taken care of. Our curls can鈥檛 be treated like straight hair. It鈥檚 just different. As soon as I began to figure out how curly hair needs to be treated, instead of trying to force it to be like straight hair, that was when things began to turn around for me.

These instructions will go over the basics, but they will be given in much more detail, with lots more information in the book. I just wanted this information to get out there, so another person wouldn鈥檛 have to spend thirty years struggling with their hair like I did.

The first thing you must know is:

Do not brush or comb your hair when it鈥檚 dry.

Your hair will simply explode into a fuzzball.

This is a picture of three of my curls as they are.

This is the very same three curls after combing them dry.

Never separate your hair like a wishbone.

This is just asking for a big snarl. It is in the nature of our hair to tangle. Our curls are the exact same shape nature uses for plants when they need to grasp onto something, like pea tendrils. You always have to keep this in mind, every time you touch your hair. Otherwise you will constantly be cutting knots out of your hair and cursing at it. Always work from the ends. If they aren鈥檛 clear, then nothing will move beyond them. They will just create a big log jam of snarling. With the techniques I go over here and in the book, your need to ever separate your hair in the first place will be cut to a minimum.

Stop hurting your curls

Though our hair seems so headstrong and thick, and mine tears up a cheap comb, the individual strands of hair are gossamer thin and delicate. They are damaged easily, and break off when damaged. Your hair won鈥檛 grow when damaged. If you can eliminate all the ways your hair is damaged, then it will grow to its maximum length (as long as your health is okay). Some things that damage our hair the most:

Relaxing or straightening.

Anything that involves sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide. These are the same chemicals in hair depilatories. The only difference is the hair removers are left on a bit longer. This is why they also work so well as drain openers; they eat up everything in their path. I spent most of my life applying these chemicals to my hair because I thought it would make my hair more manageable. I walked around with scabs all over my head because of how severe they were, yet could not for the life of me figure out why my hair wouldn鈥檛 grow.

Cooking your hair.

Anything that would blister your skin doesn鈥檛 feel so great on your hair either. Flat irons can actually melt the cuticles of your hair. Curling irons as well as flat irons can boil the water within your wet hair and make little bubbles within the shaft. Your hair will break off at these bubbles. A mild and careful blow-drying, especially with a diffuser should be okay, provided the heat isn鈥檛 too high, and you don鈥檛 concentrate the heat on any one spot.

Rough combing

Ripping a comb or brush through your tight curls will not only hurt, but it will damage your cuticles and stretch your hair through the force used to get the comb through. If your hair is stretched too far, it will break.

Patience

Our hair is different from straight hair. Tight curls take time to take care of. In return, you will grow amazing spirals few other people have. Take time to untangle your hair with your fingers instead of ripping it apart. Take the time to comb it gently. Take the time to untangle it (and it will tangle). Accept that it is in the nature of our curls to tangle, and take the steps to prevent it.

Mind The Ends

Always keep your eyes on the ends of your hair. If you watch them in whatever you do, you will eliminate the majority of tangles. When separating your hair, always keep an eye on the ends. Gently hold the ends between the fingers of one hand to keep them from snarling. They will try to tangle. That鈥檚 just what they do. But if you are careful, you can prevent it. When combing, start with the ends and work the tangles out the bottom before starting another tangle. If you try to comb it out from top to bottom, it will all jam up at the ends.

You Don鈥檛 Have to Trim

If you eliminate damaging your hair, you don鈥檛 have to trim it. You get a new head of hair about every six years anyway. The purpose of trimming is to cut off the damaged parts. If you aren鈥檛 damaging your hair, you will just be cutting away perfectly good hair. I haven鈥檛 trimmed my hair in over ten years, and it鈥檚 doing just fine.

Long Hair

SHAMPOOING

Shampoo commericials are not our friends.

Ignore them. They are not for us. Never ever pile your hair on top of your head and grind the sham
Crunchy curls aren't the only way to go. It might make your hair even harder to manage, and your hair will look stiff. Hair is supposed to move, not be like a helmet. Long curly hair isn't the best choice, for as it gets longer, there will be more to take care of. So keep it short, but not to short. A few inches past the collar bone is a good length. Having layers is also a very pretty look too, so layers are recommended to keep curls cute and styled.

DON'T use shampoo and conditioner meant for straight hair. That will make hair even more unmanageable. Use products meant for curly, dry or frizzy hair. THAT's the secret to sexy curls. Some good brands are Herbal Essences, (Totally Twisted Shampoo %26amp; Conditioner $3 each, drugstores) Sunsilk, (Captivating Curls Shampoo %26amp; Conditioner $4 each, drugstores) Suave, (Professionals Healthy Curls Shampoo %26amp; Conditioner $2, drugstores) or Garnier Fructis (Sleek %26amp; Shine or Hydra Curls $4 each, drugstores). Try to stick with the same brand of products. So if you choose Sunsilk, use Sunsilk anti-frizz cream, shine spray etc. Of course you don't have to if some products are cheaper than others.

Frizz is a curly girl's nightmare. Moisturized hair is smoother and usually less frizzy. So if you like, use moisturizing and frizz taming shampoos and conditioners instead of curl-defining ones. Also, shine sprays like Zero Frizz tame frizz while adding shine and moisture.

While in the shower, shampoo like your normally would, work up the lather to clean then rinse. But when conditioning, apply as much conditioner as desired then turn off the water. Leave the conditioner in for a little while scrubbing yourself with body wash or while shaving. Rinse with cold water to tame some frizz while adding shine. Repeat if you like.

After shampooing and conditioning, rub soaking wet hair with a towel just to mop up excess water so your hair won't be drippy. Either use a curl shaping spray, cream or gel. All 3 will tame frizz while holding the curl so they won't loose their curly fluffiness. Smooth the gel or cream or spray the spray in sections so you won't miss any spots that could frizz later. A leave-in-condtioner is also good, just only use a dime to quarter sized amount so your hair won't feel crunchy while drying.

After spraying or adding cream, blow dry or air dry. Air drying is recommended so your hair won't dry out, but if you must blow dry, follow the steps 7 and 8. For air drying, skip steps 7 and 8. But read the beginning step of step 7 for a helpful tip.

Comb through your wet curls with a wide tooth comb. Add more spray or cream if you like, but only a dime sized amount of cream or a spritz here and there so your curls won't be gooey from the product. Add a heat protecting spray or strengthening cream to hair to protect it from the heat of the dryer to prevent hair breakage.

Drying your hair with a diffuser dryer is recommended, but if you don't want to or if a diffuser it to expensive, a regular blow-dryer is still ok. Run your fingers through the sections you are drying while they are being dried.

Once hair is dry, add some shine spray or serum to rid any frizz and make curls look healthy. Comb through hair once again with the wide tooth comb, or this time a brush. Use any other styling products as desired, like hairspray (which will also hold curls well while taming frizz), styling gel (just don't use to much so curls won't get gummy) or mousse to smooth curls and make them perfect for styling and shaping.

Once in a while, use hot rollers to get cute, spiral curls. be sure to spray on some heat-protectant spray before you roll it up though. it will be soft, non-crunchy, and very, very sexy.

Comb hair with your fingers after you get out of the shower before rubbing with a towel or depositing any product other than shampoo and conditioner.

Instead of doing the final rinse with cold water, do every rinse with cold water.

Don't wash hair everyday, it will really dry out your curls. Wash it every other day so hair can produce it's own oils for natural softness, manageability and shine.

Use some volume-adding products, such as Herbal Essences Body Envy Spray, Mousse and Gel to add body and thickness to hair.

When adding any product after showering, don't apply any product close to the roots to ensure hair doesn't look greasy.

Hair will get greasy when using to much product.

Compliments may last for awhile
